THE SOCIAL NETWORKING SERVICES

hi5 is a social networking website, which, throughout 2008, was one of the top 20 most visited sites on the Internet (among people who have the Alexa toolbar installed on their browser. The company was founded in 2003 by Ramu Yalamanchi who is also the current CEO. As of January 2009, hi5 claims to have over 60 million active members.

In hi5, users create an online profile in order to show information such as interests, age and hometown and upload user pictures where users can post comments. hi5 also allows the user to create personal photo albums and set up a music player in the profile. Users can also send friend requests via e-mail to other users. When a person receives a friend request, he or she may accept or decline it, or block the user altogether. If the user accepts another user as a friend, the two will be connected directly or in the 1st degree. The user will then appear on the person's friend list and vice-versa.

According to comScore, in 2008 Hi5 was the third most popular social networking site in terms of monthly unique visitors.

Although created and headquartered in the United States, it is more popular in other countries, being ranked 16th in the world only among people who have the Alexa toolbar installed on their browser but only 84th in the US

The company employs 300 staff and does not disclose revenues or profits separately from News Corporation. The 100 millionth account was created on August 6, 2006 in the Netherlandsand the site counted approximately 106 million accounts on September 8, 2006,

Twitter is a social networking and micro-blogging service. It enables its users to send and read other users' updates (known as tweets), which are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length. Updates are displayed on the user's profile page and delivered to other users who have signed up to receive them. Senders can restrict delivery to those in their circle of friends (delivery to everyone being the default). Users can send and receive updates via the Twitter website, SMS, RSS (receive only), or through applications such as Tweetie, Twitterrific, and Feedalizr. The service is free to use over the web, but using SMS may incur phone services provider fees.

Four gateway numbers are currently available for SMS: short codes for the United States, Canada, and India, and a United Kingdom-based number for international use. Several third parties offer posting and receiving updates via email.

THE SEARCH ENGINES

Lycos began as a search engine research project by Dr. Michael Loren Mauldin of Carnegie Mellon University in 1994. Bob Davis joined the company as its CEO and first employee in 1995. Lycos then enjoyed several years of growth and, in 1999, became the most visited online destination in the world, with a global presence in more than 40 countries. Lycos was sold to Terra Networks of Spain in May 2000 for $5.4 billion, forming a new company Terra Lycos and maintaining a position as one of the world's largest Internet companies. Shortly after the merger, Davis left the company to become a venture capitalist with Highland Capital Partners in Boston. In October 2004, Lycos was sold by Terra's parent company Telefonica to Daum Communications Corporation, the second largest Internet portal in Korea, becoming once again Lycos Inc.

HotBot is one of the early Internet search engines and was launched in May 1996 as a service of Wired Magazine. It was launched using a "new links" strategy of marketing, claiming to update its search database more often than its competitors. It also offered free webpage hosting, but only for a short time, and it was taken down without any notice to its users. Though competitive when it was acquired by Lycos in 1998, HotBot has in recent years reduced its scope. Today the website is merely a front end for third-party search engines Yahoo.com, and MSN, as well as Lycos' own lyGo.com. It was one of the first search engines to offer the ability to search within search results. The site still exists, however it is run by Yahoo! mainly.

AltaVista was created by researchers at Digital Equipment Corporation's Western Research Laboratory who were trying to provide services to make finding files on the public network easier.[1] Although there is some dispute about who was responsible for the original idea[2], two key participants were Louis Monier, who wrote the crawler, and Michael Burrows, who wrote the indexer. The name AltaVista was chosen in relation to the surroundings of their company at Palo Alto. AltaVista was publicly launched as an internet search engine on 15 December 1995 at altavista.digital.com.[3][4]

At launch, the service had two innovations which set it ahead of the other search engines. It used a fast, multi-threaded crawler (Scooter) which could cover a lot more Web pages than were believed to exist at the time and an efficient search back-end running on advanced hardware. As of 1998, it used 20 multi-processor machines using DEC's 64-bit Alpha processor. Together, the back-end machines had 130 GB of RAM, 500 GB of hard disk space, and received 13 million queries per day.[5] This made AltaVista the first searchable, full-text database of a large part of the World Wide Web. The distinguishing feature of AltaVista was its minimalistic interface compared with other search engines of the time; a feature which was lost when it became a portal, but was regained when it refocused its efforts on its search function

LOVE.."?

There is a lot of talk about love. We used the word
in different ways. But what is love, really?

Love, love love,?. There is no power greater than love.
Love can motivate people to do things for people
that they woudn't normally do.
Love can cause young people to do foolish things at times
Love gives meaning to people who would other
wise have no purpose in life.

But if love is such a beautiful thing, why is there so little
love in the world? why is there so much hate?
well i guest".. true love is more than sentimental, gushy
feelings. It is a choice that each of us makes and true love can only
come from God.

"VALENTINE'S...Means to me."

Ahhhmmn,..,,.ammnn,,,The day of hearts. It talks about love, A sweetheart chosen, or an amorous message. The day which is much harmonious and capable to express their feelings. But to fell inlove? Ahhmmnn.., man things to considered...many things seek to explain,,,...

For me, To what degree I give love,,. It is determined by my own capability. My capability is determined by environment of my past existence and by my understanding of love, truth and God. My understanding is determined by my Parents, Friends, places that i have live and been. All experiences that have fed into my mind from loving.

"FORBIDDEN LOVE,"

Everytime I
feel so down

I take my self in town
Hoping that someone would
Understand
"Till I found you, my friend
around

This heart is searching for
another's heart
that would share love from
the start
filled with love, that's true
not from anybody, but from you

Though many people would
critisize
Our relationship is beyond
compare
knowing I'm always with you
and you fell the way l do

I asked you from God
losing you would be so sad
be my love forever
"Till the end , we'll always
be together
